Fundraising Ethics: Special Considerations When Your Donors are Older Adults

Wednesday, October 13th from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm on Zoom

Each October, AFP Global spotlights ethics in the fundraising profession, and our local ethics committee has put together a critical topic that you've likely dealt with, but might not have spent a great deal of time beforehand thinking through.

Many of our best and most loyal major donors are senior adults. They may be cognitively aware and independent one day – confused and vulnerable the next. Health circumstances may suddenly change without your knowledge. Successful development officers have the insights, skills and abilities to assess donor circumstances and to determine whether a gift is in the best interest of the donor. Through discussion and case analysis, this session will explore the practical, moral, and ethical issues in working with older adult donors and their families and advisors.

Roberta (Robbe) A. Healey, MBA, NHA, ACFRE, Founding Member of Aurora Philanthropic Consulting, has practiced philanthropic fundraising and non-profit organization management for more than forty years. She is an accomplished fund raising generalist with successful track record of establishing and strengthening development offices and Boards. More than 150 organizations have benefitted from her fundraising, strategic planning, board development and training services. She Chaired the Board of Directors of AFP Global 2009-10 and completed twelve years of Board service in December 2012. She is Immediate Past Chair of the AFP Global Ethics Committee.
