Meeting Information: Leaders for Meeting's Facilitated Learning Opportunity

Sara Bishop, Yvette Murphy-Erby, Anne Shelley and You!

The one hour, interactive, facilitated learning opportunity provides an overview of key definitions and concepts related to diversity and inclusion, a personal story that sets the stage for exploring personal advantages and blind spots and mini discussion sessions the allow participants to consider how they can use the insights in their personal and work experiences.    


Dr. Yvette Murphy-Erby, a Professor of Social Work, is the Vice Chancellor for Diversity and Inclusion at the University of Arkansas. She has held other leadership roles within the university including, Associate Dean in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, Director of the School of Social Work, and Interim Director for the African and African American Studies Program.

Dr. Murphy-Erby received her BA from the University of North Carolina – Charlotte (1985), MSW from UNC-Chapel Hill (1991) and PhD from UNC-Greensboro (2004).  She joined the University of Arkansas faculty in 2004. 

In collaboration with colleagues, Dr. Murphy-Erby has received over $14 million in external funding awards.  She has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, presented at numerous national and international conferences and co-authored the first book on intersectionality published in her discipline. She has expertise in building teams, engaging communities, and addressing social, economic and racial equity.  She served six years on the Board of Directors for the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation.
