Description

You're strategic about your fundraising. You're committed to your cause. Are you as invested in your career advancement? Join CFRE's Marni Tuttle, Sarah Lyon, Lisa Weatherhead, and Liz LeClair for a workshop on setting career goals and a path to your future. And while strategic short and long term planning is important in this process, how often do you think of asking others to be with you from the start of your planning? To not mentor, but sponsor? Set aside 90 minutes to be strategic about your personal advancement and who can support you in it. In this workshop-style session, you’ll learn about their Goals Gone Wild pilot while you create your personal career path. Evaluate your strengths, explore what type of work you enjoy and determine what you need to meet your goals. Create your personal path to success and learn how to create a network that will help you be successful. You’ll leave the session with a plan to help you succeed in your career. "

About Sargasso Philanthropic CIC

Sargasso Philanthropic is a community interest company based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.  The company was founded in 2021 by four seasoned fundraisers with more than 60 years of expertise and experience. Our company was founded with a community purpose of increasing equity and social justice in the charitable sector.

Sargasso’s founders and associates provide strategic fundraising, communications, and donor relations.

Liz LeClair, CFRE

Director of Advancement, Nova Scotia SPCA

Co-Founder, Sargasso Philanthropic CIC

Liz LeClair is proud to call herself a fundraiser and a feminist.  She brings more than 15 years of experience to her role as the Director of Major Gifts at the QEII Foundation in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Liz is a director with Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE), a contributing editor to The Charity Report, the past Chair of the AFP Women’s Impact Initiative, and a new board member with the African American Development Officer (AADO) Association.

In 2019, Liz published an op-ed with CBC on her experience being sexually harassed by a donor.  She is a co-founder of the National Day of Conversation, a day dedicated to raising awareness on sexual harassment of fundraisers.

Sarah Lyon, CFRE
Co-Founder, Sargasso Philanthropic CIC

Sarah was hired on the spot in her first fundraising role, her previous fundraising experience being door-to-door cookie sales for Girl Guides. Since then she has studied the fundraising greats and earned a CFRE, moved into a senior leadership role as a Director, and has become a sought-after emcee and speaker in and for our sector. Recently she sat on the Association of Fundraising Professionals Canada Foundation for Philanthropy Board as both Stewardship, and Leadership and Legacy Giving chair.

She is the founder of the GivingTuesday Canada community movement, Nova Scotia Gives More, and she continues, to this day,  to sell Girl Guide cookies.

Marni Tuttle, CFRE

Co-Founder, Sargasso Philanthropic CIC

Marni Tuttle is invested in nonprofit success.  She believes philanthropy makes the impossible possible.  Marni has what a volunteer once described as 20-year ‘gold-plated’ fundraising resume with leadership roles in organizations in the education, environment, continuing care and animal welfare sectors. As an entrepreneur and consultant she has experience in health care, arts and culture, and social causes.

Lisa Weatherhead, CFRE
Director of Philanthropy, Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation

Lisa’s diverse career has led her from corporate sales and sales training to a career in the charitable sector, including roles at Dalhousie University Faculties of Dentistry and Health Professions, Cystic Fibrosis Canada, and her current role at the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation as Director of Philanthropy. She is also a certified Dale Carnegie Coaches in Nova Scotia.

Lisa’s career in the charitable sector is rooted in family and community. Growing up in a small community, she was fortunate to have opportunities to learn the importance of giving back and helping others and been blessed with several strong mentors throughout her life. Lisa has been an active volunteer for many years working with various events and organizations in the Halifax area including Big Brothers Big Sisters, AFP Canada, MacPhee Centre for Learning, and Veith House.

Aside from her passion for the non-profit industry Lisa is also a semi- retired runner, an avid gardener, and a proud volunteer Big Sister.
