NPDCAL Conference welcomes AFP Global Board Member, Mike Baker, CFRE  

Michael J. Baker, CFRE, is a founder and partner of m3 Development, a full-service consulting firm for non-profits and foundations. Prior to m3 Development Michael worked with the American Cancer Society, National Hemophilia Foundation and Boy Scouts of America in executive level development and management positions. He now serves as a board member with AFP Global.

Also, NPDCAL Breakfast Keynote Speaker is the long time, revered fundraiser Kay Sprinkel Grace. Kay is the author of seven (soon to be eight!) books about philanthropic practices and board engagement In addition, her articles have appeared in Advancing Philanthropy and the publications of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Major Donors

When you request a major gift, you’re asking for a big commitment. Major donors need to be carefully cultivated leading up to the solicitation and just as carefully stewarded after the gift has been made. So, whether you are new to major giving or are looking for ways to maximize your efforts, we have several sessions with strategies to help you connect with your major donors.

Fundraising Management

Laying the foundation for tomorrow! Come engage with us and learn the Fundamentals of Fundraising.  This track provides an overview of skills and knowledge required for comprehensive development program. Gain an understanding of development structure and strategic planning and how they affect your fundraising.

Advance Fundraising Professionals

Excellent fundraising skills are required for a professional’s advancement, but each stage of a development officer’s daily demands require stronger leadership skills. This track will focus on comprehensive leadership and management strategies. Come experience a curriculum of strategic management, operational effectiveness, leadership skills, and practical operations. 

Anything & Everything Fundraising

Because in the world of development no two days are alike! Development professionals where many different hats and have to be very creative to raise a dollar. The Anything and Every track will cover everything from economic forecasting to marketing strategies for big and small shops.

Members Only Ethics Breakfast

As we all know, ethical behavior is key to fundraising. It is so important to the Association of Fundraising Professionals that we ask each member to sign and agree to our Code of Ethical Standards. Since the inception of our chapter's Ethics Committee last year, it has been our dream to have the GLAC Chapter host an ethics breakfast for our members. That dream has become a reality!

On Tuesday, October 1 from 9:00am — 11:00am, we will be hosting our first ever Ethics Breakfast at the Cathedral Center of Our Lady of the Angels. This coincides with AFP Global’s Ethics Awareness Month. The breakfast will be FREE for members only. We have a diverse panel lined up for the breakfast:  Gina Johnson, M.P.A., CFRE, Executive Director of Central Development, Cal Poly Pomona and a volunteer member of the AFP International Ethics Committee; Janice Gow Pettey, Ed.D., a nonprofit consultant, author, and noted authority on diversity, ethics, and nonprofit governance; John Sonego, Associate Dean for External Affairs, USC Sol Price School of Public Policy and adjunct faculty teaching in the School’s Masters in Public Administration and Nonprofit Leadership and Management programs.    Please check your inbox for the invitation and full details. Parking: Guests should park at The Music Center Main Campus Garage. Enter via southbound traffic, turning right into the garage from Grand Avenue between 1st St. and Temple St.

Guests are to enter the Dorothy Chandler through the Artists Entrance located at 1st St. and Grand Ave. (to the left of Kendall’s Brasserie). Please give security your name at the door. Take the elevator to the 4th floor. Make a right upon exiting the elevator, and go all the way to the end of the hall to the Rigler Board room.

Parking: CSCP is located in the Pasadena Humane Society’s building, on the second
floor, at the southwest corner of Del Mar Blvd and Raymond Ave.

Parking is available under the building – the parking entrance is off Raymond Avenue just south of Del Mar. If the lot is full, sometimes it pays to wait a minute or two to see if anyone leaves.

If not, there is street parking available on Raymond for 2 hours. Also, the Del Mar metro station across the street, north of Del Mar on Raymond, has free underground parking for 90 minutes.

Once you have parked in the garage under the building, take the north (green) elevator to the second floor.

The Ralph E. Chamberlain Scholarship

The Ralph E. Chamberlain Scholarship, provided by the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy, covers the registration fee for the AFP International Conference to be held in Baltimore, Maryland March 29-31, 2019.  Applications for the Chamberlain Scholarship will be accepted beginning September 16, 2019.

One of the best things about AFP-GLAC is the camaraderie and community of members who are willing to share their hearts, hands and network of friends to help each other succeed.

While we all share a goal of pursuing professional excellence, not all our members have the financial resources to be able to attend meetings, seminars, conferences, buy books or pay the fee to take the CFRE exam. However, our chapter is here to help our members! Through the AFP-GLAC Chapter Fund we are able to provide much needed support to our members. The Chapter Scholarship Fund is available for members to attend conferences such as the AFP ICON, GLAC Regional Conference, participate in fundraising webinars and workshops, etc. 

We would like you to consider making a gift of $25 today and help us support our members participate in worthwhile educational activities.

  • AFP California Capital Chapter will be hosting the Fundamentals of Fundraising Course on September 16-17, 2019 in Sacramento, CA. Fundamentals is a 2-day intensive course that offers a complete overview of fundraising designed for those with 5 or fewer years of experience in the field. Topics covered include: developing an integrated fundraising program, marketing, building and sustaining relationships, securing the gift, managing volunteers and fundraising management and accountability.
