You're Invited: Holding Space, Building Power – A Community Conversation on IDEA
At a time when immigrant communities in Los Angeles are navigating renewed fear, heightened ICE activity, and systemic injustice, we believe now is the time to come together—not just to respond, but to reflect, realign, and rise in solidarity.
AFP CA, Greater Los Angeles Chapter invites you to join us for:
Holding Space, Building Power: A Community Conversation on IDEA
Date:June 17, 2025
Time: 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM (PT)
Format: Zoom
This is not a panel. This is a circle—a space to hold one another in community, to share stories, and to affirm our shared commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) as core values in action, not just aspiration.
Together, we’ll explore:
- What it means to lead with justice during a time of deep uncertainty
- How nonprofit leaders are responding with courage and care
- How philanthropy can show up in meaningful, sustained ways
This conversation is a call to collective leadership. It’s an opportunity to listen, learn, and take action—so that Los Angeles remains a place of welcome, dignity, and hope for all.
Join us as we hold space, build power, and continue the work—together.

Framing Statement
AFP GLAC stands in solidarity with our immigrant communities during this time of heightened fear and uncertainty. We recognize and commend the extraordinary leadership of nonprofit organizations across Los Angeles who are responding with urgency, compassion, and courage.
This gathering is not a presentation, but a shared circle of care and conversation—a space to process, connect, and move forward in community. In times like these, Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) cannot remain ideals alone—they must become daily practices of solidarity, protection, and empowerment.
We are honored to come together with peers and partners in this work to listen, reflect, and commit to what equity demands from each of us—now and into the future.
We are grateful to be joined by two community-rooted leaders whose work exemplifies equity in action.
Christine Margiotta is the Executive Director of Social Justice Partners Los Angeles, where she leads systemic change initiatives that center equity and redefine philanthropy as a tool for liberation. Christine is a changemaker, collaborator, and fierce advocate for justice—guiding movements with both strategy and heart.
Frank Velásquez Jr. is the founder of 4 Da Hood LLC, a storyteller, social justice warrior, and community connector. Frank uses cultural organizing and lived experience to create spaces where joy, resistance, and power intersect—amplifying marginalized voices and redefining leadership from the ground up.
Together, they don’t just talk about IDEA—they live it, breathe it, and build it with others. We’re honored to learn in community with them.
