Topic:Imposter syndrome is defined as a collection of feelings of inadequacy that persist despite evident success. This is not a unique phenomenon - it hits many of us at some point in our lives. But some researchers believe it hits individuals in minority groups harder, as a lack of representation can intensify feelings about being an outsider, and experiences of discrimination can create heightened stress and anxiety. This moderated discussion by Cara Dessert, CEO of The San Diego LGBT Community Center will provide a safe environment for exploration and discussion about how unchecked Imposter Syndrome can impede an individual’s fundraising career and tips on how to overcome it.

Presenter:
Caroline (Cara) Dessert, Esq. is the Chief Executive Officer of The San Diego LGBT Community Center. Prior to being named CEO, she served as the organization’s Chief Development and Community Engagement Officer and brought in one of the largest personal donations received in the organization’s history.
A queer Latina, Dessert is an attorney and non-profit executive with 15 years in social justice leadership. Dessert was previously the executive director of Immigration Equality, a national organization focused on LGBT immigrant rights. Dessert has deep roots in the San Diego area and is a native of El Centro, CA. She completed her JD at the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Law.
