AFP San Diego Virtual Brown Bag Lunch: Making Development Spaces More Inclusive

When:  Aug 28, 2020 from 12:00 PM to 01:00 PM (PT)
Associated with  AFP CA, San Diego Chapter

Topic:

Lack of diversity in Development spaces, and lack of social ties to nonwhite, non-heterosexual, non-cisgender communities, has led the philanthropic sector to sometimes reinforce racial and social inequalities as much or more than it remedies them. How can we begin to remedy this problem in our Development Departments here in San Diego?

This discussion will feature Development and Advocacy Professionals of Color speaking from their own experience about inclusive practices they have been able to implement in their work, as well as changes they would like to see implemented in Development spaces in the future that will make the sector more inclusive. You will gain insight on how to decolonize Development spaces and a list of actionable items to move towards making your departments more inclusive internally and externally.

Learning Objectives:

Understand and identify how certain structures perpetuate inequality in our Development initiatives

Pick up tips you can implement to make your Development Team and the work it does more inclusive
