Bio

After a lengthy career in human services, Christy Thompson discovered that her passion and skill set aligned best with the world of Fundraising and Development.  What began as requesting in-kind donations for small events quickly escalated to forming lasting and meaningful relationships with donors, local businesses, and city/county officials.  Christy comes to Durham Arts Council (DAC) from Housing for New Hope in Durham, NC, where she oversaw all Development, Marketing, and Communications activities. While in her role, she was responsible for driving change in the rebranding of the agency, renewing/rejuvenating donor relations, increasing general public awareness of HNH and issues related to homelessness, as well as, securing major grants awards. She was instrumental in securing new grants and funding from national corporations and local businesses familiar with the affordable housing crisis in Durham. Christy was responsible for launching the new website, all content within the e-newsletter, solicitation emails, direct mail, and social media campaigns, and the strategic planning of events (both fundraisers and awareness).  Christy excitedly joined the amazing team at the Durham Arts Council and is working to move our strategic vision to reality. “The arts are important and are often overlooked in our very STEM focused community. But that’s what makes Durham so great; there is room for both! I look forward to helping spark a broader understanding of how the arts impact the world around us and expanding upon DAC’s current mission, making the arts accessible for all.”

Christy is a resident of Durham and loves her community.  In her spare time, she volunteers for Special Olympics NC as a cheerleading coach and state-wide clinician in addition to being a Miracle Maker for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
