From Talk to Action: Diversity and Inclusion in the Social Sector Now

When:  Sep 17, 2019 from 11:30 AM to 01:30 PM (PT)
Associated with  AFP CA, Silicon Valley Chapter

We live in troubling times. Recent events on the local and national stage call out the need to build bridges between communities and authentically engage in the work of diversity and inclusion. Listen to the lives and experiences of four local thought leaders as they share their own journey and recommendations to help us move from talk to action.

A panel discussion and conversation moderated by Michele Lew, CEO of the Health Trust aimed at nonprofit staff, volunteers, donors, grantmakers, corporate social responsibility leaders, and anyone who supports diversity in the social sector.

The 2019 IDEA Luncheon is sponsored by the Sanford Institute of Philanthropy.

Our distinguished panelists are:

Gabrielle Antolovic

Board President, Billy DeFrank LGBTQ+ Community Center
Jeff Moore
President, Silicon Valley NAACP
Ron Gonzales
President & CEO, The Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley

Moderator
Michele Lew

CEO, The Health Trust

Let’s look through the dual lens of intersectionality and IDEA with a culturally competent perspective.

About The Panelists

IDEA_Gabrielle_Headshot.jpgGabrielle Antolovich is the Board President for the Billy DeFrank LGBTQ+ Community Center. Gabrielle volunteers as the Board President of the center and works to diversify the volunteer mix, the variety of peer-led groups, activities and events so that anyone visiting the Center will find themselves represented.  Gabrielle represents the Center by collaborating with as many diverse groups, organizations and individuals and by working on intersectional issues with allies. Having come out gay in 1966, Gabrielle has sought allies since day one. Philosophically, Gabrielle believes that we all do better together.

From a Hewlett Packard Executive, to Mayor of San Jose, and Councilmember for the City of Sunnyvale, to Santa Clara County Supervisor, to Mayor for the City of San Jose--the first Latino Mayor for the City of San Jose since Statehood--to a non-profit leader as President & CEO of the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley, Ron Gonzales’ work and roots in our community are deep and wide. His housing, transportation and education initiatives have been nationally recognized, and in case you didn’t know, he’s been the leader to get BART to San Jose since in 1989.  His continued guidance and leadership in our region, nationally and with our Latino community supports all communities in Silicon Valley.
