Maria Arevalo has been a member of the Stanislaus community for over 40 years and is involved with projects developing youth leadership and increasing civic engagement of underserved members of the Stanislaus community.
Maria is currently a member of the Stanislaus Community Foundation Board and also serves as a member of the SC Foundation’s Grants and Programs Committee. She is the Chair of the Stanislaus Latino Giving Circle and is a member of the Latino Community Foundation Leadership Council. Maria is also part of the Modesto Latino Leadership Initiative and the Vice Chair of the Modesto City Golf Advisory Committee.
Maria received her undergraduate degree and her law degree from the University of California, Berkeley. She started her law career in Modesto, CA at California Rural Legal Assistance, and from there moved on to roles as a Deputy Public Defender in Stanislaus and Merced Counties and Deputy County Counsel in Merced County and also practiced law in her own private practice for a number of years.
Maria served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Merced County Employees Retirement Association from 2005 until her retirement in 2014. She enjoys bicycle riding, hiking, traveling and spending time with her family.
