Join us as Arnold Chavez, Bonnie Childers, Jessica Vaughan and Amy Wolfe bring back their highlights from ICON to Yosemite Chapter so we can learn alongside them. These AFPY members who attended AFP ICON in Las Vegas earlier this year will share information and the "takeaways" from their experiences. This is one time that what happened in Vegas isn't staying in Vegas!
Arnold Chavez, a Central Valley native, is a strong supporter of his community and the people within. Born and raised in Modesto, CA, Arnold has served the community as a whole through his various roles at Modesto Junior College for the past 28+ years. He currently stewards the sciences as the Director of the Great Valley Museum. He frequently volunteers to aid in student functions, both led by the college and the students themselves, and participates in initiatives aimed to enhance student life. As an active member and leader of the greater Modesto community, he has served on committees providing input for city-wide projects and proposals such as new county marketing. Most recently Arnold is serving on the board of the Yosemite Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals where he is currently President.
Bonnie Childers is Director of Communication and Development at Sierra Vista Child and Family Services, working to meet the needs of the children and families her agency serves. She and her family recently relocated to Modesto from Asheville, North Carolina where through her career in leadership, she has worked in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors.
During her tenure with the YMCA, she attended North American YMCA Development Organization, in partnership with YMCA of the USA, YMCA Canada, and YMCA Mexico, which inspires and strengthens the philanthropic culture of the YMCA. In 2020, Bonnie’s fundraising department won an award for their committed excellence in fundraising and demonstrating outstanding achievement in YMCA financial development. Bonnie also worked in Nonprofit Management for the Girls Scouts and at the City of Asheville in the Community and Economic Development Department.
Bonnie grew up in South Florida and had the opportunity to live and study in Europe and Japan. Bonnie earned her Master of Public Affairs from Western Carolina University in North Carolina and Bachelor of Fine Arts from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.
Jessica Vaughan, CFRE has worked for Second Harvest of the Greater Valley over the last ten years. She has worked exclusively as the Director of Development, in charge of communications, fundraising, and marketing. She has extensive experience with relationship development, corporate and individual giving, event management, and social media marketing. Prior to her tenure at SHGV, Jessica worked in the banking industry, where she provided customer service, ensuring proper risk management and training and supervising staff. Jessica attended CSU Stanislaus, where she studied organizational communications. When she is not working with the food bank, she loves supporting local small businesses, photography, and being outdoors enjoying nature.
Amy Wolfe, CFRE is a partner in Mujeres Poderosas, a collaboration of hard-working, determined and passionate women sharing their collective wisdom for the betterment of non-profit organizations. Her career includes tenure serving as Interim Executive Director of the American Leadership Forum – Great Valley Chapter, President and CEO of AgSafe, as Vice President of the California Agricultural Leadership Foundation, and as a legislative aide for the California State Assembly.
Ms. Wolfe is dedicated to her community serving on the Boards of Directors of the Ag Innovations, Modesto Rotary Club, and Protected Harvest, being an involved member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the League of Women Voters Stanislaus County and a Girl Scout for 38 years, now as leader of her daughter’s troop.
Ms. Wolfe received her Master of Public Policy and Administration from CSU, Sacramento, her Bachelor of Science from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and is accredited as a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE).
