Storytelling: The Not-So-Secret Ingredient of Fundraising Success

Presented by George Boodrookas, Ed.D.

We’ve all been captured by a great story.  In a book, a movie, a speech, a podcast or a magazine.  Good stories can move us to action.  In fundraising, a good story can spur us to connect, engage and give of our time, talent and treasure to a cause.  Join us for our next AFP luncheon speaker, Dr. George Boodrookas, owner of Philanthropia Consulting, who will share insights about uncovering the impactful stories in your organization and sharing them in ways that inspire donors, employees and volunteers to love your cause even more deeply.

George Boodrookas is the owner of Philanthropia Consulting, a small business with a heart for the non-profit sector.  After retiring from a 33-year career at Modesto Junior College where he last served as the dean of advancement and executive director of the MJC Foundation, Dr. Boodrookas has packaged his expertise in fundraising and non-profit management for the benefit of philanthropic organizations throughout California.

Dr. Boodrookas serves as primary consultant to the Network of California Community College Foundations. He also provides consulting and pro bono services to local non-profits.  Dr. Boodrookas offers guidance on a wide array of matters including, strategic planning, board development, storytelling, operations management, the annual fund, alumni relations, major gift solicitation, and planned giving.

George Boodrookas was born and raised in Modesto.  He attended local, public schools and graduated from Downey High School in 1980.  He attended UC Berkeley where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Economics in 1985.  He completed both a master’s degree and a doctoral degree from Stan State.  He is married to the love of his life, Anna, and they have two grown children who live in the Sacramento region with their significant others.
