Brittney Wardlaw is East coast born and raised and moved to Waco, Texas to work in the Title IX Office. Prior to moving to Baylor University, she was the Executive Director of Title IX at Liberty University. She has since transitioned from Title IX work specifically to Civil Rights and Equity in the newly formed Equity Office. She earned her bachelor’s in International Business and also in Business Marketing. She also earned her Juris Doctor while at Liberty University.

She and her husband love being in Waco and to be able to contribute to the growth of the City. They have been married for eight years and are very passionate about justice and social healing. They enjoy laughing, dancing, and eating with their three beautiful girls—Anastacia, Justice, and Mercy. Her life verse that is reflective of heart and profession career is Proverbs 31:8-9 “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.”

In July 2018, Shirl Johnson Brown joined the Equity Office where she serves the University as the Manager of Affirmative Action (AA) and Equal Opportunity (EO). As Manager of AA and EO, Shirl focuses on ensuring institutional compliance with state and federal affirmative action obligations; assisting with Civil Rights related inquiries of discrimination, harassment, and/or retaliation based upon Protected Characteristics (e.g., race, gender, disability, age, etc.); and educating and training of the campus community on diversity, inclusion, and equity. She also serves as the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Coordinator accountable for coordinating and monitoring the development and implementation of the University’s Affirmative Action Program.

Shirl began her career at Baylor University in the Human Resources (HR) department in September 2001. While in HR, she has served in various capacities as a recruiter, Manager of Talent Acquisition, Faculty Services Specialist, Manager of the HR Service Center, and Manager of Equal Employment Opportunity and Inclusion.

Shirl earned her Bachelor of Business Administration degree in management with an emphasis in human resources from the University of Houston and a Master of Science degree in Organizational Development from Abilene Christian University.

Shirl is an active member of Faith Christian Center in Harker Heights, and the proud mother of four children – Joshua, Morghan, Logan, and Kyndall – who finds God's blessings and strength with each new day.
