OUR PROGRAM

Join us for this unique program, being brought to you through a collaboration between AFP Central Iowa and Mid-Iowa Planned Giving Council. 

For the month of March we will not meet at our regular second Monday of the month time. We will be joinging MIPGC on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 from 8:00 to 9:30 am at the Des Moines Community Playhouse. 
8:00 to 8:30 am = Social
8:30 to 9:30 am = Program

This session will focus on Nonprofit Board Governance.
Designed for nonprofit fundraisers and philanthropic financial advisors, this program will cover board roles, fiduciary responsibilities, and governance best practices that directly impact fundraising effectiveness, donor confidence, and organizational sustainability.

    Dave Bright, J.D.
    Associate Director of the Larned A. Waterman Iowa Nonprofit Resource Center at the University of Iowa

    Dave Bright, J.D., earned his BS in 1992 from the University of Iowa and his JD in 2001 from the University of Iowa College of Law. While in law school, he was hired by Professor Sandy Boyd as a Research Assistant to help with the formation of the Larned A. Waterman Iowa Nonprofit Resource Center. Prior to rejoining the Center in 2022 as its Associate Director, Dave was in private practice for over 20 years with a focus on land use and real estate development; business transactions; franchising and distribution; nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations; estate planning and probate; and art and museum law. He is a frequent speaker on topics including business formation, estate planning, nonprofit and tax-exempt governance, and art and museum law. Dave serves as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the College of Law, where he teaches Art, Law, and Ethics; Cultural Property/Heritage; and Art & Entertainment Law.

    location/PARKING:

    PLEASE NOTE: This month's program will be held at the Des Moines Community Playhouse, located at 831 42nd Street in Des Moines. There is ample free street and lot parking behind and around the Playhouse. 

    REMINDERS:

    As an AFP member, you may bring one guest annually FREE OF CHARGE to an AFP monthly education meeting. If you would like to use your free guest pass, please email Kim at admin@afpcentraliowa.org. 

    breakfast:

    As a breakfast meeting, your registration will allow you to swing by La Mie prior to the meeting to grab your coffee and a pastry. La Mie is just north of the Playhouse in the Shops at Roosevelt, 841 42nd Street, Des Moines.
