Program

The Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines connects donors with causes they care about. Join Ryan Douglas, Senior Charitable Giving Advisor and Ellie Burns, Senior Director of Nonprofit Relations as they explore what it means to carry forward the mission of the Community Foundation. We will share some of the new learning and networking opportunities available, discuss various funds held at the Community Foundation, and explore how our team can work alongside your organization in a variety of ways.

Ellie Burns, Senior Director of Nonprofit Relations
Des Moines Community Foundation

Ellie Burns is the Senior Director of Nonprofit Relations for the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines. In this role, Ellie connects nonprofits with valuable resources available through the Community Foundation and other community resources. She creates opportunities for connection and learning among nonprofit leaders through training programs and works closely with nonprofit board and staff members, grantmaker colleagues and community partners to support the overall health and wellbeing of the nonprofit sector in Greater Des Moines. 

Prior to her role with the Community Foundation, Ellie was the Director of Pre-College TRIO Programs at Central College. She has degrees from the University of Nebraska, Murray State University, and most recently an Ed.D. from Drake University in Educational Leadership. She enjoys the various options for live music in Des Moines, getting in a run on one of the city’s wonderful trails, and spending time with her husband and daughter. 

Ryan Douglas, Senior Charitable Giving Advisor
Des Moines Community Foundation

Ryan Douglas is a Senior Charitable Giving Advisor at the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines and has been working in Community Foundations since 2017 in various capacities. Leveraging his 4 years’ experience working in high-net-worth wealth planning, he currently leads efforts related to working with professional advisors and their clients to promote and facilitate charitable giving. As part of this role, Ryan oversees the Community Foundation’s Charitable Investment Partner program. 

In addition to his work with the professional advisor community, Ryan works closely with individuals and families in strategic philanthropic planning so donors can give and connect more effectively in their charitable giving. 

Ryan grew up in Urbandale, Iowa and attended the University of Iowa where he received his degree in finance. After a 10-year detour in San Diego, Ryan now resides in greater Des Moines with his wife and two daughters.

Parking

Ample free parking is available on the north and south sides of the building.
