Equitable, Inclusive, and Strengths-Based Language

When:  Oct 17, 2019 from 08:00 AM to 09:30 AM (ET)
Associated with  AFP VA, Central Chapter

As fundraising professionals, we are the story-tellers, the data collectors, the number crunchers, and event-planners within our organizations, along with other duties as assigned!

We are the torchbearers, and the language we use and the stories we tell lead and inspire others to help us fulfill our missions and meet the bottom line. But, sometimes the language we use is not an accurate reflection of how those we serve see themselves and can fail to connect prospective donors and funders to our cause.

During this session, we will discuss the importance of using inclusive, equitable, and strengths-based language to accurately, and respectfully share our client's stories, and talk about their identities, experiences, and roles in society. And, connect our missions with the values of donors, and funders, and the issues they want to help solve.

Salathia Johnson is this month's presenter and the Director of Development for a local nonprofit organization in RVA, and she is a current participant in the AFP Central VA Chapter’s Diversity and Inclusive Fellows program.
