NATIONAL PHILANTHROPY DAY 2024 HONOREES 

Outstanding Individual Philanthropist
~ Darrell & Dorothy Fisher ~

Darrell and Dorothy Fisher believe in the power of education. Both graduated from area high schools and met while working at Rockwell Collins. Married for over 60 years, and now retired, the Fishers focus their individual philanthropy to ensure local students have the means to pursue their educational dreams. Their generosity inspires philanthropy in our community and beyond.

Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser
~ Lisa Henderson ~

Lisa Henderson is an accomplished and creative leader with expertise creating successful partnerships. She’s an active civic and community leader supporting strategic community needs as a board and committee member. Lisa was a co-chairperson for Indian Creek Nature Center’s largest and most significant capital campaign, Amazing Space. This campaign raised 10% more than its goal of $7 million to support construction of a new Nature Center building, as well as expand ICNC’s endowment.


Outstanding Fundraising Professional
~ Amy Geiger ~

Amy Geiger has spent her 40-year career working in the nonprofit sector, creating programs and raising funds that address the needs of children and families and enhanced community services. She has held development positions with Alternative Services for Youth and Families, Cedar Rapids Public Library Foundation, Cedar Rapids Community School District Foundation, Mercy Medical Center Foundation, United Way, and most recently with the Marion Public Library Foundation.

Outstanding Large Philanthropic Organization
~ Corda Credit Union ~

Corda Credit Union is a not-for-profit, full-service financial organization, helping Iowans build a strong foundation — with banking and lending, guidance and growth, since 1935. The organization is dedicated to doing good in the communities they serve, creating a positive impact through every interaction. In 2024, Forbes ranked Corda Credit Union, formerly known as Linn Area Credit Union, as the fourth best credit union in Iowa, after other larger credit unions with regional footprints. Only six credit unions in the state were named to the list.

Outstanding Philanthropic Youth
~ Marissa Rushton ~

Marissa Rushton is a bright, shining example of how anyone, of any age, can be a change-maker in their community. Upon graduating from Xavier High School in 2023, Marissa was awarded the “Light of the World”, Xavier’s highest honor. Marissa is currently a sophomore studying Pre-Pharmacy at Drake University in Des Moines. She serves as the Co-President of the Drake University Dance Marathon program raising funds for the UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital. Marissa is also actively involved in her sorority, Alpha Phi, raising money for women’s heart health.

Benjamin Franklin Award
~ Les & Katrina Garner ~

Les and Katrina Garner have dedicated their lives to community service in eastern Iowa and nationally. The couple reside in Mount Vernon, where the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group honored them earlier this year as Citizens of the Year. They have two sons, Brantley and William.
