AFP was created in 1960 as the professional association for fundraisers. It had the traditional goals of all associations: to develop a code of ethics and standards, as well as educational opportunities; to promote and sponsor research and the granting of awards and fellowship; and to build the profession and explain its importance to the general public.Over the last 60 years, the fundraising landscape has changed dramatically – an evolving workforce and workplace, the increased demand for data and impact, and the rise in social responsibility. With these shifts in mind, AFP continues to educate, inspire and support fundraisers and drive the conversations surrounding the impact we make through effective and ethical fundraising and philanthropy. Join Birgit Smith Burton, Chair, AFP Global, and past AFP Greater Atlanta Chapter President, as she shares her vision for AFP – ensuring a robust pipeline of talent, incorporating new voices and innovative ideas, and creating a more equitable environment for all fundraisers.
