Calling all fundraising professionals! Grab your morning coffee and join us virtually on the fourth Thursday of every month for networking and topic discussions. Each month experts in the field will be on call to lead the topic discussion and answer your questions. Our past talks on “Social Media Hacks”, “All About Grants”, and "Recurring Giving" were both well-received and well-attended!

The topic for May is Donor Advised Funds. Leading our talk from the Hawaii Community Foundation is Ms. Jen-L W. Lyman, Director of Planned Giving and Advisor Relations (please note change from initial co-presenter) and Ms. Inger Tully, CFRE, Director of Community Philanthropy for Maui County. Inger is also an AFP Aloha Chapter board member.  View Jen-L & Inger's bios...

Donor-advised funds (DAFs) have soared as a popular way for generous donors to support nonprofits of all sizes, creating an opportunity for nonprofits to boost revenues. DAFs are one of the fastest-growing giving vehicles in the U.S. In fact, the number of individual donor-advised fund accounts increased by more than 50% in 2018. In 2019 the total grant dollars from DAFs was estimated at 27 billion.

Like other nonprofit supporters, donor-advised fund account holders want to meaningfully impact the causes they care about. Often, these philanthropic individuals are high-net-worth donors with the propensity to make major gifts. In other words, nonprofits risk missing out on a major funding source if they don’t create a strategic plan for acquiring these donations and stewarding DAF donors.

We hope you will join this session to learn more about the nuts and bolts of donor-advised funds as well as tips on stewardship for your DAF donors. The session will also include time for all your DAF-related questions. If you would like to pre-submit questions, you may send them to Inger Tully at ITully@hcf-hawaii.org

Coffee Talk attendees will also get a chance to win a $10 Starbucks gift card...because what's a Coffee Talk without a little free coffee?

Registration is required, so don't delay! There is no charge for this event but you must register in order to participate and receive the Zoom meeting link.
