Better Together, It’s what makes Hawaii work is the theme for the 2018 National Philanthropy Day conference. This year, AFP Aloha Chapter wanted to focus on community – the importance of gathering together as one, supporting each other, and working towards making Hawaii a better place. Community is the heart and soul of Hawaii and it is something that we want to celebrate and embrace.
Philanthropy is “the love of humankind,” and National Philanthropy Day® (NPD) is the day that thousands of people around the world come together to both (1) put that word into action and (2) recognize the change that word has brought to our communities.
In short, NPD is a celebration of philanthropy—giving, volunteering and charitable engagement—that highlights the accomplishments, large and small, that philanthropy— and all those involved in the philanthropic process—makes to society and the world.
In 2018, more than 100 communities and 50,000 people around the world will participate in National Philanthropy Day events and celebrations. These include award ceremonies, galas, luncheons, seminars and other special events. Outstanding donors, volunteers, corporations, foundations, small businesses, youth in philanthropy and others will be honored on National Philanthropy Day in recognition of their work to improve their communities. Collectively, they invest billions of dollars to support nonprofit organizations in our communities, give countless hours of volunteer service, and demonstrate that commitment to professionalism in fundraising ensures nonprofit organizations will carry on their missions and touch countless lives.
The Awards Luncheon is held at the 'Alohilani Resort between morning and afternoon educational sessions to recognize outstanding local philanthropists. No other platform honors acts of giving and volunteering. Leaders in philanthropy typically prefer to shy away from the limelight, but Aloha Chapter honors them on this special day as an inspiration to others. The National Philanthropy Day® Awards Luncheon will recognize Hawaii’s organizations and individuals who are making positive changes in Hawaii. This memorable event is an opportunity once a year to acknowledge the generosity of individuals and organizations who help make our island home a better place to live.
