Stephanie Carlson

Client Engagement Coordinator, Mighty Citizen

How long have you been part of the AFP Idaho Chapter?
I joined AFP Idaho 3 ½  years ago and I’ve been on the Board for 2 ½ years.

How long have you been involved in the nonprofit sector?
I’ve worked in the nonprofit sector for 10 years.

Where do you currently work and can you us a brief description of your responsibilities?

I currently work at Mighty Citizen, a web development, marketing, branding, and communications agency for mission-driven organizations.

As part of the business development team, I meet with potential clients to determine if Mighty Citizen is a good partner. I also evaluate and respond to Requests for Proposals.

How do you manage to balance your personal and professional life? What do you do to relax?
When working for a mission-driven organization, it can be difficult to maintain a good work-life balance because we want to help people. But, I find when I make time to rest and unwind I am more productive at work. To relax I enjoy baking, playing tennis, and listening to audio books.

Last book you read (or show you’re watching or binge-watching)?

Two recent books that I’ve enjoyed: Big Lies in a Small Town by Diane Chamberlain and Searching for Sylvie Lee by Jean Kwok.

I’m a little late to the game, but recently I’ve been binge-watching How to Get Away with Murder on Netflix.

What advice would you give to other AFP members who are considering becoming a committee member?
Joining the AFP Board was honestly one of the best decisions that I made for my career. As a newer fundraiser, I had the opportunity to collaborate with industry experts who mentored me and helped me expand my knowledge and skill set. As a board member you’ll have the opportunity to choose Education Session content and select guest speakers that will help you grow professionally. I encourage you to jump at the opportunity to join the dynamic and fun AFP Idaho Board. The small time-commitment has the potential to transform your future--it sure did for me!

The AFP Idaho Chapter is saddened to say farewell to you. What's next for you?

I’m moving to Austin, Texas to be closer to my work colleagues. It’ll be a big change for me, but I’m excited to experience all that Austin has to offer, specifically queso and live music (not humidity and hail).
