Maybe It's Not Always Roses: How a New Organization Stuck a Stake in the Ground and Climbed to Succe

When:  Jan 15, 2020 from 11:30 AM to 01:15 PM (ET)
Associated with  AFP IN, Indiana Chapter

Speaker:  Cheryl R. Cooper, CAP, Executive Director, Random Acts of Flowers Indianapolis

Random Acts of Flowers is celebrating its third year in Indianapolis, and the delivery of tens of thousands bouquets to patients in hospitals and other care facilities. How does RAF manage to do that with just two staff members—reclaim, recycle, and deliver so many flowers? Cheryl will share the challenges of a “new” organization; the role of a board in a “branch”; managing 400+ volunteers; and, how RAF raises funds for a “non-essential” service. Learn how to apply these successes to your own organization. And, join the chapter in a vase drive for RAF. Watch for details closer to the program date.

Cheryl Cooper, CAP, was born and raised in Elkhart, IN.  She is a graduate of Western Michigan University with a B.S. in Business & Political Science.  She moved to Indianapolis in 1993 to focus on Charitable Gift Planning as an Account Exec with Renaissance.  She re-entered banking as a trust specialist for several years before joining Methodist Health Foundation (prior to Clarian becoming IU Health).

In 2005, she joined Fifth Third Bank in the Charitable Services/Trust & Investment division to work with non-profit clients in building infrastructure and creating planned giving programs.  Along the way she served as President of the Planned Giving Group of Indiana (twice), and a member of numerous planned giving advisory boards... as well as Development Chair of the Indianapolis Art Center (board member for 10 years) and currently serves as incoming President of the Carmel Clay Public Library Foundation Board.

Cheryl retired in 2017 and followed her nonprofit passion to Random Acts of Flowers as Executive Director.
