What Would you Do?

In this session, you will be given real-life scenarios where you will discuss possible solutions and discuss what you would do if faced with the same situation, followed by reviewing with our experts what really happened and what could have been done differently.

Terry Mosteller, BBA, JD

Terry is the founding attorney at Mission Counsel, where he helps nonprofits and small and medium-sized businesses overcome obstacles so that they can focus on what they do best–accomplishing their mission. His goal is to get to know not just the legal challenges cliente face, but also their organization's mission, values and culture so that he can provide custom legal counsel for each client’s specific situation.

After graduating law school, instead of jumping directly into practicing law, Terry chose to start his career off by serving the nonprofit sector in non-attorney roles. Immediately after law school, he worked for a small faith-based college where he ran the admissions and financial servicesdepartment, helped gain approval with the US government to admit international students, and helped lead a program providing mentorship for students of the college.

From there, he went to work for an international anti-human trafficking organization where he ran the policy advocacy department and was able to assist with drafting laws and educating legislators and law enforcement officials all over the world.

After seven years of being immersed in the nonprofit sector, Terry decided to make the jump to practicing law by starting his own law firm focused on the legal needs of nonprofits and small and medium-sized businesses. While he loved my time serving nonprofits on the programmatic side of things, over time he began to realize that he actually helped the organizations the most when he helped them solve interesting problems that they otherwise didn't have the capacity to solve–especially problems that had a legal component to them.

Today he believes that his skills accomplish the most good by helping others change the world. That's why he loves what he does at Mission Counsel.

Terry lives in Kansas City with an amazing and beautiful wife who owns a thriving massage therapy practice in Lenexa, Kansas. They have two impossibly cute kids who constantly keep them entertained (and completely exhausted).

When he’s not in the office, he enjoys working out, reading way too many books at one time, backpacking and mountain climbing in the Pacific Northwest, spending time with his amazing friends, watching UGA football (Go Dawgs!) and hanging out with his aforementioned extraordinary wife.
