While the nonprofit sector is seen as more inclusive than the private sector, research shows that leadership does not tend to represent diverse communities (racialized minorities, Indigenous people, and other under-represented groups). In addition, a survey of nonprofit leaders in Ontario showed that most organizations were not actively seeking diverse pools of talent.
So how do we in our organizations identify bias and work against the systems that lead to this lack of diversity? In this session, we will have an open and honest conversation about identifying and dismantling these systems and barriers. In addition, we will talk about what it means to be anti-racist and how we can play an active role creating an environment of inclusion within our workplaces and communities.

Roxanne Tackie has over a decade of experience in the nonprofit sector. As a former Executive Director, Roxanne's role as a nonprofit professional has included identifying prospects, grant and proposal writing, developing and implementing stewardship plans, and creating impact reports for donors. Roxanne is the Co-Founder of Story Point Consulting where she provides coaching and training for nonprofit staff and volunteers, and consulting services aimed at increasing fundraising capacity for nonprofit organizations. The best part of Roxanne’s work is learning about the diverse organizations within the nonprofit sector, and using her skills to help people develop genuine and long-term relationships with their donors. Roxanne is also passionate about diversity, equity and inclusion. She serves on the AFP Manitoba IDEA Committee, the AESES Diversity Committee, and is a board member of the Congress of Black Women of Manitoba.
