What do your local foundations fund and what do they look for when building relationships in their community?

Meet with leaders from Akron Community Foundation, Barberton Community Foundation and Stark Community Foundation as we discuss the importance of transparency, communication, and impact! 

Hear from Dr. Suzanne Allen. She serves as the Executive Director of the Barberton Community Foundation and leads a staff who are committed to strengthening the Barberton community for current and future generations by providing leadership, fostering collaboration, and creating a legacy of giving to do good.

Prior to her appointment at Barberton Community Foundation, she was the President and CEO of Philanthropy Ohio, at statewide membership association focused on educating, advocating and convening foundations and other grantmakers in Ohio. She has also served as the Vice President for Development and Donor Services for the Akron Community Foundation.

Dr. Allen has more than three decades of nonprofit leadership. During her career Suzanne has held teaching, senior fundraising, and leadership positions with several universities, and has served as a private consultant helping clients in the nonprofit and academic sectors across the country.

John F. Garofalo will also be on the panel. He has served as the Vice President, Community Investment at Akron Community Foundation since August 2011. He is responsible for managing the foundation’s grant distribution process as well as all the affiliate fund grant distributions.

John joined Akron Community Foundation after over 25 years of experience in the nonprofit sector that included various management and development positions.

John received his B.S. in community health education from Kent State University and his M. Ed. in community health management and administration also from Kent State. John also carries the prestigious Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) certification.

John currently serves as a board member for Plexus Education Foundation, Arts Now, Leadership Akron, and the Social Services Advisory Board
A native of Painesville, Ohio, John lives West Akron.

Amy Krebs, Vice President of Grants and Community Initiatives at Stark Community Foundation will round out the panelists. Amy is responsible for Stark Community Foundation’s competitive grantmaking, the Foundation’s strategy, evaluation and research activities as well as overseeing neighborhood revitalization work.
