  • Our friends from United Way of Stark County will deliver a special presentation on board and committee preparedness. 

    Hear from LaFlovia "Flo" Ginanni about Project Blueprint and improving diversity in volunteer leadership on boards and committees.

    LaFlovia “Flo” Ginanni has been at United Way of Greater Stark County since 2013. She is currently the Vice President of Diversity, Culture, and Engagement. She launched United Way’s Project Blueprint in 2019, a board and committee preparedness program designed to recruit, train, and place ethnically diverse leaders into policy making roles to enhance the effectiveness of nonprofit agencies. Flo also represents United Way on the Dismantling Racism Coalition of Stark County, which introduced the 15 Day Unity Challenge to the community in August of 2020. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor, as well certified Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant and works as a PRN Counselor at CommQuest’s Detox Unit . She holds dual bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Sociology, in addition to master’s degrees in both Leadership Studies and Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She has worked in the social service, mental health, and criminal justice fields for over 30 years.

    Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Flo has been a resident of Stark County since 2002. She is a member of the Stark County NAACP, Strengthening Stark’s Minority Action Committee, and Stark County Human Resources Association, and the Patient Voice Council of Aultman Hospital. She has served on the Board of Directors of Community One Credit Union since 2014 and is an active and involved member of L.I.F.E. Ministries International Church. In addition to being committed to living out her Christian values, Flo is very family oriented and sees that as her primary life’s work! In October 2022, Flo was recognized with a Community Service Award at the Stark County NAACP Freedom Fund Dinner. 

    Joining LaFlovia will be Darnell Tucker, M.Ed. Darnell received his Bachelor of Arts in education from the University of Mount Union and his Master of Education in higher education and student personnel from Kent State University. Tucker has served in various functions in higher education such as marketing, internal communication, directing a diversity center, and DEI outreach. With services to both public and private institutions such as Mount Union, Allegheny College, and currently, Stark State College, as he prides himself on engagement with students. Tucker is also the founding advisor for Brothers Building Bonds, a student organization providing mentorship to men of color. Tucker’s career goal is making higher education an equitable system by providing opportunities for institutions to reflect members of the global majority.

    Rounding out the panel will be Dr. Jean Engohang-Ndong
  • Dr. Engohang-Ndong was born and raised in Gabon which is a French-speaking country in Central-Western Africa
  • He lived in Europe for 7 years where he completed his higher education with a PhD in Medical Microbiology.
  • He then came to the United States in late 2003 as a Research Scientist with a particular interest in improving the treatment of tuberculosis which is an infectious disease.
  • He joined the world of higher education in 2007 when he accepted a position at Brigham Young University Hawaii.
  • He then joined Kent State University in the Fall of 2010 as a Tenure-Tack Assistant Professor. Since then, he went through the tenure process at Kent State. He was tenured and promoted to the academic rank of Associate Professor in 2016. More recently, in the Spring of 2022, he was promoted to academic Rank of Full Professor.
  • Dr. Jean Engohang-Ndong is also the Founder and CEO of EKAZA-BRIDGING THE GAP, an organization the fosters access to higher education, persistence, and degree attainment through one-on-one academic advising, mentoring, tutoring, and early exposure of underserved student populations to science, technology, engineering, math, and medicine.
  • He loves hiking and spending time with his family.
  • He is a Stark County Resident interested in the well-being of our community, especially in equity and social justice.
