Description

Every contribution made to a nonprofit is essential, but recurring donors are every nonprofit’s most valuable contributors. Learn some valuable tips for engaging your donors and making sure you retain them this year and next!

Margaret Medzie, Vice President and Chief Development Officer for the Akron Community Foundation, will be a panelist for this program. Margaret has been at the foundation for more than 9 years and she and her team help charitable people, families, and organizations give efficiently, effectively, and meaningfully to their favorite causes and charities, not just today but forever. They connect donors to the community, introduce them to nonprofit organizations, and introduce them to like-minded philanthropists.

Margaret has a strong leadership background in the nonprofit and private sectors, serving as executive director of the American Red Cross Chapter of Summit and Portage Counties, the American Cancer Society, Vice President at Goodwill Industries, and the founding director of the Portage Foundation. Margaret has a master’s degree in higher education administration from Kent State University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology and sociology from Notre Dame College of Ohio.

Joining Margaret as a panelist will be Pat Roberts. Pat joined the Malone community in 2015 and was promoted to Vice President for Advancement in 2020. He has more than 30 years of experience in higher education fundraising and has throughout his career worked as a major gifts officer, director of alumni relations, annual fund director, and as a vice president.

Prior to his appointment at Malone, Roberts served as Vice President for Development at Hiram College for eight years where he led the institution to successfully complete two campaigns, grew the annual fund from $1.7 annually to $2.6 annually in five years, and grew alumni events from 22 to 66 in less than five years. Throughout his career, he has served in positions of increasing responsibility in fundraising at Archbishop Hoban High School, the University of Akron, and Cleveland State University.

Roberts earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, a master’s degree in Public Administration, and a doctorate in Urban Studies and Public Affairs from the University of Akron.

Rounding out our panel will be Donald Luscher, Director, Regional Development at University Hospitals of Cleveland. Don has over three decades of fundraising experience, including Annual Giving, Planned Gifts, Fundraising Events, Corporate and Foundation giving.
