AFP-NM 2019 Mentorship Program

AFP-NM Development Mentoring Program

As one of the benefits of being a member of the AFP New Mexico Chapter, we are offering a 6-month Development Mentoring Program beginning in July of 2019. Are you looking for one-on-one guidance and support from a seasoned development professional?  Or are you a seasoned professional who wants to give back to the New Mexico philanthropic community by helping to ensure that non-profit organizations have the best fundraisers?

The AFP-NM Development Mentoring Program is one of the most important programs AFP New Mexico Chapter offers. This members-only benefit provides individualized training to advance the skills of those newer to the profession, transitioning to a new area of the field or looking for opportunities to grow in their fundraising career. For both mentors and protégés, this is an exceptional opportunity to share expertise, network with and learn from colleagues, and, ultimately, ensure the strength of New Mexico’s philanthropic community.

For mentors, the program enhances leadership abilities, fosters collegial relationships, and provides additional networking opportunities with regional colleagues.

Women of Color are encouraged to apply! The AFP-NM Chapter is committed to engaging diversity, inclusion, and equity in the dialogue for our philanthropic community. As one step in this work, we are responding to the data from the Race to Lead: Women of Color in the Nonprofit Sector report that shows “Racial and gender biases create barriers to advancement for women of color. Women of color report being passed over for new jobs or promotions in favor of others—including men of color, white women, and white men—with comparable or even lower credentials.” Additionally, regarding mentoring as a way to address the barriers noted above, “…research on the workplace has shown some benefits—albeit of a modest magnitude—to mentees, as measured by their salary, promotions, and job satisfaction.”

If you are interested in the program but not yet a member, we invite you to become one! If the cost of membership is a barrier, AFP-NM has membership scholarships available. Contact Bianca Mitchell, VP of Membership, at bmitchell@indianpueblo.org for more information on membership scholarships.

Please apply using this online form.  Deadline to apply:  June 17, 2019

The AFP-NM Development Mentoring Program Committee will review all applications and match mentors and mentees according to mentee stated preferences, common interests, skills, and location.
