From For-Profit to Nonprofit Resource Development and Leadership: Lessons Along the Way

Our panelists will share their professional journey from for-profit leadership to leading and fundraising for nonprofit organizations. The session will encourage fundraisers and executive directors to seek out leaders in the community who are motivated to move their for profit skills into professional leadership roles in the philanthropic sector.

Facilitator:  LaDonna Hopkins -For more than forty years LaDonna has been working in communities to change lives by connecting community resources with human needs. She retired from United Way of Central New Mexico in 2010 and that year established her consulting firm, H & H Consulting. She is Past President of AFP-NM and was the recipient of the Outstanding Fundraising Professional Award at National Philanthropy Day in 2009.

Panelists:  

Robert (Bob) Goodman - In 2008 Bob retired as Vice Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Albuquerque and became the Executive Director of Sandia Foundation.  Sandia Foundation has three primary beneficiaries, the University of New Mexico, Dickinson College and charitable organizations doing business in Albuquerque.  He retired from Sandia Foundation in August 2016. 

Mr. Goodman has served on numerous nonprofit boards including the Mind Research Network; past Chair of the UNM Foundation Board and past Chairman of the UNM Foundation Investment Committee; a member of the Albuquerque Community Foundation Board of Trustees and Chairman of its Investment Committee; Chairman of the New Mexico Finance Authority; past member of the Sandia Prep Board Of Directors and many other Albuquerque nonprofit boards over the past 50 years.

Beverly McMillan – Bev came to New Mexico to lead Victoria’s Secret care center facility in Rio Rancho, NM and began actively working within the community serving those citizens who were the most vulnerable.  Bev McMillan is a current member of The Albuquerque (NM) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated and serves Western Area Program Chair.  .

Bev has served on the boards of Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Central New Mexico, Haven House Domestic Violence Shelter, Lovelace Women’s Hospital and Trustee for the Albuquerque Community Foundation.

Bev’s most recent role as the Marketing and Fundraising Chair for Albuquerque Family Advocacy Center led her into the most recent promotion as United Way of Central New Mexico, Executive Director for Mission:Families .  United Way of Central New Mexico newest initiative, Mission:Families focuses on creating stable families and providing resources, including supporting working families and student success.

John Nichols - After 21 years in financial services, John decided to redirect 100 percent of his time and energy to doing something that he loves: promoting concerts.  Over the last 10 years he has volunteered his time and risked his own capital to produce over 25 different charity shows.
