AFP-NM February 2020 Affinity Group Brown Bag Lunch

When:  Feb 20, 2020 from 11:00 AM to 01:00 PM (MT)
Associated with  AFP NM, New Mexico Chapter
Our February meeting will be focused on establishing AFP-NM Affinity Groups!

In 2020, AFP members will have the opportunity to participate in affinity groups that will meet on a quarterly basis, with opportunities to meet more frequently if they prefer. Non-members are welcome to participate in affinity group meeting and are encouraged to register with a one-time $25 participation fee. We are hopeful that you will identify yourself as a member of one or more of the following groups:
  • Rural Fundraisers: Focused on providing resources, opportunities, and connections for fundraising professionals working in rural New Mexico; the Rural Fundraisers affinity group will work to bring professional development and networking opportunities to communities that are unable to access events and training readily available to organizations in the Albuquerque-metro area.
  • Fundraisers of Color: Focused on supporting nonprofit professionals and fundraisers who identify as a person of color, the Fundraisers of Color affinity group will work to support nonprofit professionals who are navigating systemic barriers that exist within the philanthropic community.
  • Emerging Fundraisers: Delving into the foundations of strong development programs, building relationships with the community and potential donors, and creating a strategy for success, the Emerging Fundraisers group is designed to connect brand new development professionals to peers who have been in the field for fewer than 10 years.
  • Seasoned Fundraisers: Designed for nonprofit consultants, fundraisers with 10+ years of experience, and nonprofit professionals who are ready to launch discussions around advancing their development programs to the next level, the Seasoned Fundraisers group will provide support to nonprofit professionals who want to take a more in-depth look at their organization's philanthropic strategies.
Each group will have an identified coordinator, who will assist in gathering agenda items from the group, scheduling meetings in agreed upon times and places, and requesting guest presenters or webinar resources on an as-needed basis. Affinity group members and coordinators will have the opportunity to participate in a first convening and training opportunity on February 20th, with assistance from Mariposa Strategies in identifying tools for successful and inclusive facilitation. This workshop will be free for AFP members and will include the registration fee for annual participation that will apply to non-members.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch, or pay a small fee to have a boxed lunch provided on-site. Affinity groups will be required to independently convene again in May and August, with an identified agenda built based on group members' most urgent concerns and educational needs.
