This session will encourage you to look more broadly at the ethical nature of our work and to take a new look at the resources available in an interactive fashion. Specifically, we will:

  • Present ethical fundraising as an obligation of all members at all times
  • Elevate the problem-solving session to stimulate personal reflection
  • Encourage you to view the process of creating policy as a vehicle for organizational development

Presenters:

Scott Fortnum (CFRE) is President & CEO of Children’s Health Foundation in London Ontario and has been a professional fundraiser since 1990 working with organizations across Canada. He has previously served on AFP International and Greater Toronto Board of Directors and currently the Ethics Committee. As well, he is a mentor in the AFP Women’s Impact Initiative (WII). A well-known speaker throughout Canada and the United States, Scott has held the Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation continuously since 1995 and became the 92nd Advanced Certified Fundraising Executive (ACFRE) in 2011 joining the ACFRE Certification Board in 2014 and becoming chair in 2018.Scott is also a trained auctioneer and frequently calls bids at benefit auctions throughout the country.

Leah Eustace (CFRE, ACFRE) is an idea-generator and strategic thinker with a wide and varied background in charitable fund development. Over the past 25 years, Leah has raised hundreds of millions of dollars for organizations around the world.

After many years as a practitioner, Leah now works as a consultant to the non-profit sector. She partners with her clients to help tell powerful stories through cases for support, legacy giving and annual campaigns. She has a particular interest, and extensive experience, in strategic planning and ‘looking under the hood’ of fundraising programs to help tune up revenue-generation activities, and build stronger relationships with donors.

Leah’s volunteer work is extensive. She is Vice Chair, Professional Development on the international board of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), Immediate Past Chair of the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy Canada, and a member of the ACFRE Credentialing Board. In addition, Leah is a certified AFP Master Trainer.

Leah speaks internationally in the areas of legacy giving, donor psychology, leadership, and philanthropic trends. As well, she’s a regular contributor to Advancing Philanthropy, Hilborn e-news, and many other publications.

In 2014, Leah became the 101st person in the world to receive the ACFRE accreditation (and only the 8th in Canada). She was also honoured with the 2014 AFP Ottawa Chapter Outstanding Fundraising Executive Award.
