He began his career in fund-raising and hospital administration at Kingston General Hospital where he served from 1983 through 1995, when he then accepted the role of Director of Development at Queen’s University.

Fellow for Life of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP), Ian continues to be recognized internationally for his expertise in all aspects of strategic planning for non-profit organizations, resource development and gift planning. In 2013, he first earned the distinguished Fellow in Charitable Estate Planning (FCEP) credential.

Ian is a seasoned faculty member of the AHP Fund-Raising Institute, held annually at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He currently serves as the Planned Giving Track Dean. Active in the Association for Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the Canadian Association of Gift Planners (CAGP) and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), he also lectures widely on all aspects of legacy gift planning in Canada.
