Job Description for Manager of Operations and Administration
Salary Range: Part-Time position - $22/hour
 
 
Position Summary 
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager of Operations and Administration at the Reading Science Center will manage the systems and processes that will create organizational efficiency and support the growth of Reading Science Center programs. They will be responsible for the planning and execution of all aspects of the visitor experience, from docent staffing, exhibit maintenance, parking, safety, and guest comfort.  The position also includes recruiting interns and volunteers, all of whom are key to the sustainable operations of
our organization.  As such, they will also onboard all new employees to the Reading Science Center. Other administrative responsibilities include payroll, visitor tracking, keeping inventory, ordering supplies, maintaining technology, and keeping leases and insurance current. The position will also provide support for the organization’s special events.
 
Essential Functions 
 Hire, train and supervise up to 3 interns per semester to assist with docent duties as well as marketing
    support.
 Recruit, train and supervise a team of volunteers to supplement paid positions in order to maintain adequate
    staffing levels for Open to the Public Days and educational assistance as requested by the Director of
    Educational Programming. 
 Assure employees under their supervision have the required clearances on file and remain current. 
 Consult with and support Exhibit Committee of the Board of Directors to request, place, maintain, and
    acquire permanent and rotating exhibits.
 Direct and support the Events Committee of the Board of Directors in planning the Reading Science Center
    special events including the Mad Science Experiment and Celebrate Science Day.
 Conduct annual reviews for interns under their supervision and complete appropriate intern evaluations
    required for credit by their educational institutions.
 Serve as liaison to national museum organizations and report Reading Science Center’s metrics.
 Work schedule is 25 hours per week, 10am to 3pm, Monday through Friday.
 Work one Saturday per month.
 Ability to articulate science concepts.
 Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
 
Competencies 
 Previous employee supervision and experience managing and supporting volunteers.   
 Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. 
 Possess strong organizational and project management skills.
 Ability to plan and track budgets.
 Previous use of database software such as Bloomerang, payroll systems such as ADP, and payment platforms
    such as Square.
 Demonstrated event planning management and support.
 Appreciation for science and education.

Qualifications
Experience 
 3 years supervisory experience
 3 years project management experience
 Event planning and management experience 
Education 
 Bachelor's degree in business, education or related field
Certifications 
 Child Abuse Clearance
 FBI Clearance
 Clear PA Criminal Record
 Valid driver’s license
Skills
 Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service ethic.
 Proficiency with or ability to learn Google suite of office applications including Docs, Slides, Sheets, Drive,
    Meet, Forms, Contacts and Calendar as well as Canva, and Word Press.
 Experience with donor databases, payroll systems and payment platforms.
 Must be able to lift and move 25 pounds.
