Vice President of Programs: Brenda Riehl

While working my way through college, I landed a job in a nonprofit’s fundraising office. Since I was majoring in social work, nonprofit service was a natural fit, and I went on to work in leadership and fundraising roles in child welfare, healthcare, and disability services organizations. My philosophy is that social justice comes first, and everything else is just details. We can work together as fellow human beings, bridge divides, and push each other to become better versions of ourselves.

In 2019, after 23 years of nonprofit service, I created Thrive Fundraising, a consulting business that empowers nonprofit organizations to achieve their strategic and fundraising goals. Our philosophy is to foster inclusion and equity, understanding that nonprofit organizations are poised to listen to the communities they serve, enhance programs, and put clients’ voices at the center of planning and operations. As the firm grows, it will hire people who have barriers to employment and train them to be fund development professionals.

I understand that it doesn’t just take skills and experience to run nonprofits, but also inclusion, grit, partnership, and a sense of humor.

The fun stuff: I live with my husband, our cats & chickens in the eastern Lancaster County countryside. I enjoy gardening, mountain biking, camping, hiking, cross country skiing, knitting, baking & cruising in my muscle car.
