AFP SD June Zoom meeting - Nationally Affiliated or Not? We don’t think it matters.

When:  Jun 9, 2021 from 11:45 AM to 01:30 PM (CT)
Associated with  AFP SD, South Dakota Chapter
Topic Highlight: A number of South Dakota-based nonprofits are affiliated with a national organization, but most are not. When asked if it is to an organization’s fundraising advantage or disadvantage to be a local affiliated organization, we say effective fundraising comes down to the same few principles for any organization. We’ll explore this topic and discuss those key effective fundraising principles regardless of your organization’s structure.

Presenters: The NUMAD Group – Matt Ehlman, PhD, and Kelly Gibson

Facilitator: Tracy Pardy

Matt Ehlman PhD,
understands how important it is to bring people from across organizations—and oftentimes across the country—together to creatively develop and lead comprehensive fundraising and other efforts. He has worked with organizations to allow them to experience unprecedented growth in their advancement effort—even at a time marred by an economic downtown that affected many fundraising programs. He has led a team of staff members from across the country that raised more than $70 million, a 44 percent increase over the prior five years, for a single organization. This was done while reducing fundraising expenses to below the 2005 level. Matt earned his PhD in philanthropic studies from Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Indiana University. His dissertation focused on donor motivation, specifically regarding organizations in rural areas without a traditional pool of donor prospects. He was named a Eugene R. Tempel Fellow for the merit of his scholarly work and recently completed a Bush Fellowship.

Kelly Gibson has worked at The Numad Group for 6 years. She has over 20 years of direct nonprofit management experience. Throughout her career, she has developed and administered nonprofit programs designed to address important community issues, particularly in rural and Native American communities. Kelly has assisted hundreds of rural nonprofit organizations to design effective programs, articulate program goals, create evaluation frameworks, and build systems to continuously improve their results. She is experienced in helping organizations report on the value and impact of their work, and share those results with a variety of audiences. Prior to joining Numad, she was the director of programs for a national Native organization, leading broad-based programs that addressed immediate needs of underserved communities, as well as programs designed to lead to long term, sustainable gains.
