Annual Meeting:  Our 2022 AFP Sierra Chapter Board of Directors slate will be presented (view slate) and all current AFP Sierra Chapter members will be voting.  Members are encouraged to participate in the October program for this important vote.

Education Program:  As professional fundraisers and members of AFP, we are expected to conduct ourselves, execute fundraising programs and engage with donors with transparency and the highest integrity. The Code of Ethical Standards and the Donor Bill of Rights are our guardrails. However, they don’t help us walk through a decision-making process to determine if an activity or situation is ethical or not. Each of us will face, at some point in our fundraising careers, one or more situations that feel uncomfortable, murky or just plain not right. There will be the obvious “this is bad” situation, but often there will be less defined, fuzzy situations that leave you scratching your head wondering how you should handle. There is an excellent tool now available that steps you through questions to ask about any troubling situation.

Sierra Chapter President Karen Senger will introduce you to ethical decision-making framework created by the fundraising think tank, Rogare, which is Latin for “to ask.” It’s based on a new theory of fundraising ethics called Rights Balancing Fundraising Ethics that considers the beneficiary in the decision-making process as well as the donor and other stakeholders. Karen will provide some background about how the framework came to be and walk you through the one-page framework visual. Participants will then be slit into smaller groups to put the framework into action around a few fundraising scenarios. After this session, you’ll be able to easily utilize this decision-making framework again and again in your own fundraising work.
