January 2020 Education Meeting

Topic:  The Art of Story Telling

Oftentimes, the key to successful fundraising is how well you tell your organization's story. Are you painting a compelling picture of the impact your organization is making, so that potential donors feel the impact and immediately want to help?

Our January speaker, Jackie Shelton, will share tips on the art of strategic storytelling, while offering insight into how these stories can easily be translated to your website, newsletter, social media channels and emails.

She, along with the team at the Estipona Group, founded JustThePositive.com, a website dedicated to the celebration of local good news. So once you write your story, you'll have another place to send it!

When: Wednesday, January 22, 2020 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Where: Famous Dave's Reno, 4925 Kietzke Lane, Reno, Nevada 89509

Speaker: Jackie Shelton, Vice President of Public Relations, The Estipona Group

After a 30-year career in the communications industry, Jackie still has a hard time focusing on one particular aspect of it, so she has stopped trying. As Vice President of Public Relations for the Estipona Group, she gets to handle strategic communications and event planning for clients ranging from governmental agencies to healthcare and higher education providers.

A graduate of the University of Nevada, Jackie has worked in all facets of communications -from running two advertising agencies to publishing two of the Northern Nevada region's premiere publications, RLife and Family Pulse. She has also served as an editor for Comstock's Magazine, along with several parenting magazines. In addition to her magazine work, she has been published in Chicken Soup for the Soul (two times!) and 365 Scary Stories, a Barnes & Noble anthology.

Jackie is serving on the board of the Cordillera International Film Festival, which has a mission to bring emerging, established and future filmmakers together with diverse audiences. She is also a recent addition to the board of directors for WIN, Northern Nevada's largest and oldest professional networking and educational organization.

She earned her accreditation in public relations (APR) in 2016 and served on the board of directors for the Public Relations Society of America Sierra Nevada Chapter for three years. She has also served on the boards of NCET and the local, regional and national board of the American Advertising Federation, as well as numerous local/regional non-profit and professional organizations, including the Unnamed Writers' Group and the Nevada Recycling Coalition.
