Lunch & Learn: Flat is the New Up - Gaining Buy-In and Excitement During the Budgeting Process

When:  May 5, 2026 from 11:30 AM to 01:00 PM (CT)
Associated with  AFP TX, Coastal Bend Chapter

As a fundraiser, you are asked to make predictions about the future, such as how much you will raise, when the pledge or funds arrive, and whether it will be an unrestricted donation. After a brief introduction exercise with all participants, we will explore common approaches to budgeting, common pitfalls to avoid, and develop talking points you can use the very next time you begin the budgeting process.

Learning Outcomes

Apply forecasting techniques to develop realistic and data-informed fundraising budgets, including projecting revenue by source, timing of gifts, and donor intent, in alignment with organizational financial planning processes.

Evaluate common budgeting challenges and risks in fundraising, including overestimation of revenue, misalignment with donor pipelines, and timing discrepancies, and implement strategies to mitigate these issues.

Develop and articulate effective communication strategies to gain internal buy-in for fundraising budgets, equipping participants to confidently present assumptions, justify projections, and align development goals with broader organizational priorities.
