Bio

David Mix was born in Barcelona Spain in 1973 while his mother, Janice (teacher),  and father Walter (a renowned local artist  and teacher) were on sabbatical.  After 2 years at UCR, David decided to pursue education on his own terms.  After working at the Rough Rock Community School on the Dine’ Reservation, David spent a decade learning traditional American Indian medicine, ceremony, and sacred sites organizing in communities throughout the west.  A one year internship on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation at Thunder Valley Community Development Corporation became four+ years of research, fundraising, and program development.

 

David holds a MA from Antioch University, Los Angeles, and is skilled in Management, Organizational Change, Advancement, Planning, and Risk with a special focus on writing and speaking.  David has built special projects for organizations supporting a broad range of services from organizing campaigns, to community solar plans to homeless services systems development.  

 

David spends his leisure time singing at powwows and other community events, working (National Ski Patrol) or playing outdoors with his wife, daughter, and son at their home in the Angeles National Forest.  David was recognized by the National Ski Patrol (a nonprofit congressionally chartered organization) for “Saving Human Life” and “Lifetime Achievement”.
