The Opportunity
Peace Community Center is seeking an experienced, creative, and enthusiastic full-time Philanthropy Officer to join our organization during an exciting time of growth and change. Peace Community Center is nearing the end of its first major campaign and is looking for a dedicated fundraiser to help lead our work with individual donors contributing to our annual fundraising efforts.

The Philanthropy Officer’s goal is to grow the individual donor base contributing to Peace Community Center on an annual basis. The Philanthropy Officer is responsible for planning, executing, and evaluating a successful annual individual giving program to help Peace Community Center meet our philanthropy and donor engagement goals.

About Peace Community Center
Peace Community Center was founded in 2001 and serves students in Tacoma’s Hilltop neighborhood. What began as after-school tutoring for high school students has grown into an educational pipeline that begins with students in 2nd grade and follows them through the completion of a post-secondary degree. Today, we serve 365+ scholars each year, with the goal of helping every child reach their full potential.

Peace Community Center has an annual budget of $1.2 million with approximately 30% of funding secured from individual donor contributions. The fundraising team consists of the Philanthropy Officer, a part-time Grants Manager, and a part-time Development Coordinator.

Primary Responsibilities
Individual Giving Program (80%)
Lead development and implementation of individual giving program to increase engagement and participation of individual donors. Leadership includes developing and implementing plans for solicitation and stewardship and will provide excellent customer service to all donors and potential donors.

Mid-Level Donor Program
• Develop and implement a mid-level donor program for donors who are currently giving at $250+ or have the capacity to make a mid-level gift on an annual basis
• Manage a portfolio of mid-level donors with capacity to become major donors
• Create engagement opportunities to strengthen relationships with PCC and our mission
• Solicit gifts through direct asks, phone, online, events, and mail
• Develop performance metrics and annual evaluation process for the mid-level program

Monthly Donor Program
• Build upon currently monthly donor program to increase monthly giving participation and retention
• Manage a renewal and increase strategy for current monthly donors
• Develop regular stewardship opportunities targeted at monthly donors
• Annually assess progress in meeting established monthly donor program success metrics

Annual Individual Giving Program
• Lead all activities for raising relationships and gifts from annual contributors, including solicitations through direct mail, phone, and online
• Create solicitation and stewardship plans to increase retention rates, returned donor rates, and new donor rates

Learners to Leaders
• Lead the planning process and event committee, and support the execution of the annual Learners to Leaders event
• Lead the audience development by supporting table captain recruitment and invitation process
• Lead the sponsorship development by creating the annual sponsorship plan, assigning tasks, and supporting sponsor stewardship

Hilltop: Where Scholars Grow Campaign
Participate in activities associated with the Hilltop: Where Scholars Grow Campaign, including support for:
• Public-phase fundraising activities
• Church/congregation solicitations
• Stewardship and celebration activities

Church Engagement Program (5%)
Develop and implement an annual church engagement plan, including:
• Strategies to deepen engagement with current contributing congregations
• Plan to engage local Lutheran and non-Lutheran churches that have an affinity to our neighborhood and/or mission

Communications and Marketing (10%)
Support department efforts in communications and marketing by:
• Participating in annual and on-going communications/marketing planning
• Writing content for collateral, including newsletters, social media, website, etc
• Support efforts to engage broader staff in storytelling and communications
• Participate in evaluation processes for communications and marketing pieces

Organizational Participation (5%)
The Philanthropy Officer is expected to participate in organization-wide activities and will represent the Development Department in a positive manner. Activities include but are not limited to staff meetings and retreats, staff committees, program events, and program activities.

Relationships
The Philanthropy Officer will work under the supervision of the Development Director. They will work closely with peers in the development department and members of the program staff.

Experience and Qualifications
Successful candidates must be committed to the mission of Peace Community Center and have a passion for and commitment to the Hilltop community. Strong candidates will also have proven commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural competence as well as strong prioritization, critical thinking, self-motivating, and problem solving skills.
• 3+ years of successful fundraising experience, preferably in individual giving fundraising
• Exemplary written and verbal communication skills, donor communication experience is preferred
• Detail oriented, solutions-oriented, organized, and effective at using time and resources
• Professional attitude, highly motivated, and accountable
• Able to think creatively and strategically
• Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects
• Experience taking initiative and excelling in a deadline-driven environment
• Ability to thrive both on a team and working independently
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and donor databases

Position Specifications
Job Location: Tacoma, Washington
Reports to: Development Director
Status: Full-time, exempt

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
The essential physical requirements of this position include:
• Must be able to sit at a workstation and/or a computer screen for the majority of the work day.
• There is occasional need to stand, stoop or walk for long periods of time.
• Frequently reaches with hands and arms and uses hands and fingers to handle objects and operate tools, machinery, computers, and/or controls.

Compensation and Benefits
Compensation: This is a full-time (40 hours/week), exempt position with a pay range of $42,500-47,000, depending on experience.

Benefits: Eligible for full benefit package, including generous vacation/sick time; medical, dental, and vision at 100% employer paid premiums for employee and 50% for dependents; 403(b) retirement plan with 3% employer contribution.
