2020 has presented many challenges and disruptions to events and celebrations, and our annual celebrations are impacted just like so many others. The Board of Directors of the Calgary & Area Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals  has recently made the difficult decision to move the celebration to Spring 2021, hopefully in person though final decisions will be made in line with health recommendations.  All decisions by the Generosity of Spirit jury will remain confidential until the Spring 2021 celebration is announced.

Celebrating philanthropy and National Philanthropy Day around the world remains an important priority! And to do that, we need your help.

During the week of November 9 to 14, 2020, which is when we would have celebrated National Philanthropy Day with our “not to miss” luncheon, we will instead be undertaking a social media and media campaign to celebrate the philanthropy that has been happening in our communities and organizations in this extraordinary year.

We will be reaching out to all AFP Calgary & Area chapter members, Generosity of Spirit nominating organizations and past honourees, along with others in our communities, asking you to be a part of our social media campaign. We are hoping for a widespread celebration of the causes and the supporters who help our missions come to life.

We hope that you will join us in a celebration of all of your supporters and champions in your organizations the week of November 9 to 14. We’ll be sharing some suggestions and hashtags closer to the time, so stay tuned!

Even in this unprecedented year, we have so many heroes to celebrate! We look forward to recognizing the importance of philanthropy in November and a true celebration to follow in the spring!

If you have questions, comments, or concerns, please reach out to the AFP Calgary office at Our Chapter Administrator, Kara Tersen, will pass your comments along to us for a response.

Let’s blanket our communities with the love of humankind and philanthropy together.

October is Ethics Awareness Month:

Yep, we celebrate—because ethics makes philanthropy and fundraising possible. Without ethics, giving doesn’t happen. Fundraising doesn’t happen.
Change and impact don’t happen.

Ethics makes it all possible, and THAT’S worth celebrating.

In recognition, AFP Global is offering some amazing webinars, articles, blogs, and other resources (

ALSO, stay tuned for an upcoming Virtual Luncheon presented by AFP Calgary. Registration details will be coming soon.
Ethics can be a slippery slope, so understanding the dos & don’ts is critical. Personal vs professional .... what to do … what to do …

November 23rd-25th:

One of the highlights each year is the AFP Congress in Toronto.
If you haven't been before, this is your perfect (and affordable) opportunity!

Due to COVID 19 it will not be the Congress we remember. This time, it will be a one-of-a-kind online professional development opportunity. This is an opportunity to connect with other professionals in our field to share ideas, discuss how we have adapted in this new reality, and how we can continue to work together for the betterment of our communities, organizations and profession.

Early Bird registration is $111 for the full three (3) days and you can attend from the comfort of your own home! The deadline is October 4th for the Early Bird registration.

Do you want to continue your AFP membership for the many learning and networking opportunities it provides but the cost of membership feels prohibitive right now?

AFP has a simple solution … a monthly payment plan!
(It's kind of like monthly giving, but different)
The “Installment Plan” option breaks your annual membership fee into manageable monthly payments over the course of the year. The Installment Plan option is limited to the Professional of Associate categories of membership only. This Option is only available to members when they renew and to newly joining members. It is not available for auto-renew and you must also belong to both the AFP Global association and a local chapter. Only the annual AFP dues will be divided into 12 regular installment payments. Find out more here.
