Hello Mentee. You aspire to be a great fundraiser. One of the ways you can enhance and develop your skills is by pairing with an experienced professional fundraiser as part of the AFP NWPA Chapter Mentorship Program.

Hello Mentor. You understand that the general public, board members and CEOs are seeking to raise the standards and expectations of the professional fundraiser.  It is essential to the growth of our profession that seasoned fundraisers give back to the profession (it is part of our profession’s DNA), through guiding and advising the next generation of fundraisers.  This profession maintains high standards and facilitates the practice of effective and ethical fundraising. Welcome to the AFP NWPA Chapter Mentorship Program.

The Mentorship Program lasts 6 months (June – December), and the expectation is to meet once a month, either virtually or in person, for 45 minutes to 1 hour at a time. The group agreements of these meetings are as follows:
  1. Be respectful and present – and dedicate yourself to establish a trusting and judgement-free environment that will allow for vulnerability
  2. Listen to understand – step up or step back to share the floor and encourage a diverse conversation
  3. Acknowledge individual experiences – and recognize that everyone has a history we may not be aware of
  4. Expect and accept nonclosure – and understand that there is often no “quick fix” for every question
  5. Embrace confidentiality – and make the choice to not share private, sensitive information outside the mentor / mentee relationship without permission from the other
