It is the mission of the AFP NW PA chapter to provide opportunities for our members to connect with fellow fundraisers to grow their network, to share their knowledge, and to seek assistance with obstacles they are facing. Our 2020 Board is working diligently to advance our chapter, improve communications, expand our educational offerings, and make AFP NW PA a chapter our members find beneficial to their fundraising career.

Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Northwest PA Local Member Organizations Participated in Comprehensive Survey Showing Impact of the Pandemic on the First Six Months of 2020

Recently, our chapter was recognized as a Ten Star Chapter through AFP Global which has over 31,000 members internationally. To better serve and better understand exactly how our members and their organizations were impacted by the pandemic, a survey was sent to all members. Each organization was asked to respond with information regarding the financial circumstances they each faced for the first six months of 2020. The results we received are consistent with what has been happening on a national level as seen in the following chart provided by Gail Perry, MBA, CFRE, and Fired-Up Fundraising’s nonprofit philanthropy expert.

  • Gary Bukowski, CFRE featured in "Giving Tomorrow" Magazine

We're thrilled to read Gary's tribute and learn of his passion for the fundraising profession in the current "Giving Tomorrow" publication. This article speaks volumes to how so many of us have come down different paths only to end up in the same line of work aiming to make life better for our  communities. Congratulations! - Kelly Stolar, CFRE and AFP NWPA Chapter President

  • Honoring Judy Lawrence

AFPNWPA has lost a great leader, mentor, and friend. Long-time AFP member, Judy Lawrence passed away on August 6th and we are all a bit shell-shocked. If you were fortunate enough to know Judy, you were lucky enough to be her friend. Her smile and generous doling out of compliments, made an impact.

She was good at what she did, but shared credit and recognized others for their contributions.  She had integrity and an ethical compass that shaped her professional career and everything she did. One of the hundreds of people she mentored said she goes by the fundraising edict of “What would Judy do?” while trying to make tough decisions. If you ever had the opportunity to work through issues with Judy, you can be sure you would receive a thoughtful answer from Judy, laced with questions you had not considered, and ultimately the answers to these questions would lead you to the answer on your own. She was that good.

Judy was named 2005’s AFP Outstanding Fundraising Professional with decades of fundraising experience at the United Way, several colleges, and in recent years, as a consultant for major campaigns. She was instrumental in helping to write the AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising and Capital Campaign Coaching courses offered at Penn State Behrend.  She most recently served as the National Philanthropy Day Selection Committee Chairperson.
