  • 3 Key Strategies to Maximize Your Board’s Fundraising Mindset

    Tuesday, June 21, 2022
    10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. (Pacific)
    Via Zoom
For many boards fundraising is truly an “f” word—and not in a good way.  Yet, it is inherent in a board’s governance duty to ensure that their organization is financially sustainable and has access to funding.  Fundraising is one of –if not THE--biggest priorities of any nonprofit but it is the #1 cause of complaint by both CEOs and Boards. Learn the three top reasons why board members don’t fundraise and how to change their mindsets. Join Kim Olpin (she/her), Executive Director at Jericho Road Pasadena, and Barbara O'Reilly, CFRE (she/her), Principal, Windmill Hill Consulting, as they share key steps you need to have in place to build your team of volunteer leaders; to train them and manage their expectations for success; and to determine the roles every Board member can—and should—play in creating a strong culture of giving within your organization--all through a lens of improving diversity and inclusion around the board table.

  • Shifting the Tide: A collaboration with AFP Orange County

    IDEA Educational Event
    12:00 p.m. -  1:30 p.m. (Pacific)
    Via Zoom
    Pending CFRE Credit

In the last two years, diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts have become front and center conversations about how organizations and companies can create more equitable spaces. How can we create safe spaces for colleagues of color? How do we dismantle systems that don’t support DEI in the workplace? What resources are there to learn and support one another?

Join us for a joint collaboration with our colleagues from AFP-Orange County. This peer-led workshop will be facilitated by IDEA Committee members from each chapter, and will include breakout sessions on three IDEA-related topics:

Session 1: My Experience as a Fundraiser of Color

Session 2: Allyship in the Fundraising Space

We invite you to listen, learn and hold space for each other as we continue to heal and shift behaviors in this new era of philanthropy.

AFP-GLAC is proud to provide scholarships that support the professional development of its members. There are no strings attached – we simply want to support our talented fundraising community. To learn more about scholarships or apply for one, please visit our website.

    Date: January 3rd, 2022

    For Release: Immediate

    Contact: Heather Even, 714-771-3685,

The Association of Fundraising Professionals Greater Los Angeles (AFP GLAC,) is proud to announce that Yvette Herrera of Netzel Grigsby Associates has been named President of this distinguished volunteer organization. Founded in 1968, AFP-GLAC has a legacy of supporting and developing strong philanthropy leaders throughout the area who in turn support a variety of non-profit organizations through fundraising and development. Under Herrera’s leadership, this momentum will continue, with a focus on reaching out to support those who are new to the field of fundraising while continuing to strengthen the education and leadership of experienced professionals.

“The last two years have challenged and changed the way non-profits operate – especially how we fundraise,” said Yvette. “We should not aim for a return to business as usual. We can and must do better.  Now is the time to develop strategies and take action to bring to the table those who have been missing – as donors, board members and fundraising professionals. Instead of implementing best practices which can often mean repeating what worked in the past, let aspire instead to implement what’s best … for our collective future.”
