2022 Scholarship Opportunities

Our AFP Florida First Coast chapter awards scholarships to expand opportunities for our members and help our chapter to grow. Below are the categories and instructions for each scholarship. For any questions, please email Sara McMillan, Scholarship Chair, at  AFPJaxScholarships@gmail.com.

Scholarship categories include New Member, Renewing Member, Young Professional, Diversity, CFRE/Education, Planet Philanthropy, and two awards to attend the 2023 International Conference : WJCT Learning is Forever and the Chamberlain.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL SCHOLARSHIPS

All applicants must complete the general scholarship application form. Scholarships for Planet Philanthropy, WJCT Learning is Forever, and the Chamberlain require additional documentation. Scholarships are awarded based on funding availability.

All scholarship recipients are required to serve on a chapter committee, and will be asked to submit a photo and quote about how the scholarship will help advance their fundraising career for promotional purposes. Scholarship recipients are expected to be active members of the AFP Florida First Coast Chapter.

SCHOLARSHIP CATEGORIES

New Member Scholarship **Open Now**

Scholarships are awarded to first-time AFP members. Amounts are between $95 - $285 to cover the fee to AFP International for one year; the scholarship recipient or their nonprofit is responsible for the $50 local chapter dues.

 
Renewing Member Scholarship **Open Now**

Scholarships are awarded to renewing members who have a financial need. Amounts are between $95 - $150, to cover a portion of the fee to AFP International for one year. The scholarship recipient or their nonprofit is responsible for the remaining balance of the AFP International membership cost and the $50 local chapter dues. Priority is given to members who have been active in the past.

 
Young Professional Membership Scholarship **Open Now**

Scholarships are awarded to individuals who are 30 and under. The amount is $95 to cover the fee to AFP International for one year.

 

Diversity Scholarship **Open Now**

The AFP Florida First Coast Chapter defines diversity as acceptance and respect of individuals of varying cultures, ethnicities, gender, religion, sexual orientation, professional experience, physical ability, opinions and ages. We believe our membership is strengthened by a broad representation of our community. Diversity scholarships are available to new or renewing members. Priority is given to members who have been active in the past. Application must include how your membership brings a unique viewpoint to the opportunities and challenges of fundraising in our diverse community. Amounts are between $95 - $285 to cover the fee to AFP International for one year; the scholarship recipient or their nonprofit is responsible for the $50 local chapter dues.

 

CFRE/Education Scholarship **Open Now**

Educational grants are awarded for CFRE test fee assistance (up to $300 of the $700 fee), CFRE certification review course or materials (up to $300), or for professional development seminars and conferences (non-AFP, amounts vary). Recipients will be asked to provide a report of the benefit of the scholarship to encourage others to pursue further education.



CONFERENCE SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

** Conference scholarship applications have additional questions to complete on the general application and require additional documentation. 

2022 Planet Philanthropy Scholarship **Closed**

Educational grants are awarded for the annual Planet Philanthropy Conference in Florida. The amount is $300 to cover a portion of the conference registration fee; the balance of registration and travel is paid by the scholarship recipient of their nonprofit. Recipients will be asked to provide an evaluation on the value of attending the conference to encourage others to pursue further education.

**Additional Requirements:

  • A letter of endorsement from your Executive Director, Board Chairman, or direct supervisor as to their support and understanding of your application.
  • A statement of need on why you are applying for this scholarship (limit to one page). Preference given to candidates with demonstrated financial need.


WJCT Learning is Forever Scholarship - **Open Now**

The amount is up to $1,000 to offset expenses to attend the 2023 AFP International Conference (ICON). Please research conference pricing; there are different rates for members, young professionals, or staff of a small nonprofit, and early-bird pricing is available. Travel expenses are the responsibility of the recipient or their nonprofit. Recipients will be asked to provide an evaluation on the value of attending the conference to encourage others to pursue further education. Recipients will be recognized during the annual AFP National Philanthropy Day luncheon held in November; attendance is required.

**Additional Requirements:

  • A letter of endorsement from your Executive Director, Board Chairman, or direct supervisor as to their support and understanding of your application.
  • A statement of need on why you are applying for this scholarship (limit to one page). Preference given to candidates with demonstrated financial need.


Chamberlain Scholarship - **Open Now**

This scholarship is a collaboration with our local AFP chapter and AFP International to attend the 2023 AFP International Conference (ICON). Registration is covered by AFP International and the scholarship covers hotel and travel costs (maximum amount of $1,500). It is awarded based on past service to the chapter and future leadership potential. Candidates must be employed full-time in the fundraising profession, for no more than five years. Candidates cannot have previously attended an NSFRE/AFP ICON in the past. Recipients will be asked to provide an evaluation on the value of attending the conference to encourage others to pursue further education.

 **Additional Requirements:

  • A one-page narrative explaining why you should receive the scholarship and how your organization will benefit from your attendance. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated financial need.
  • Resume
  • Information regarding your service to philanthropy and the nonprofit sector
**Note- Meals and other expenses not covered by the scholarship amount are the responsibility of the recipient or their nonprofit.
