Our Commitment

The AFP Inland Empire Chapter is committed to fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and equitable professional community where all voices are valued and empowered. Through the work of our IDEA Committee, we actively strive to ensure that our chapter’s programs, leadership, and culture reflect the diversity of the communities we serve and the values of the fundraising profession.

We believe that strong philanthropy is rooted in representation, access, and shared responsibility—and that meaningful progress requires intentional action.


Purpose of the IDEA Committee

The IDEA Committee exists to advance Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access across all chapter activities and governance. The Committee develops, implements, and monitors strategies that strengthen belonging, broaden participation, and embed IDEA principles into the fabric of the chapter.

Our work supports:

  • Ethical and inclusive fundraising practices

  • Equitable access to leadership, education, and professional growth

  • A welcoming environment for members at all stages of their careers

  • Alignment with AFP Global’s IDEA priorities and standards


IDEA Resolution

The AFP Inland Empire Chapter proudly affirms the following resolution:

IDEA Resolution

The Inland Empire Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals is committed to diversity in its programs and activities.

WHEREAS, the mission of AFP is to enable people and organizations throughout the world to practice effective and ethical fundraising through education, training, mentoring, research, credentialing, and advocacy; and

WHEREAS, the AFP Inland Empire Chapter is committed to serving its people, communities, cultures, and ecosystems; and

WHEREAS, the IDEA Committee exists to promote an association that is equitably representative of the region’s diversity; and

WHEREAS, the AFP Inland Empire Chapter defines diversity as ensuring every voice is equitably represented, with consideration for its contribution to humanity, the earth, and all its inhabitants—so that no viewpoint, culture, organization, or religion is ever marginalized or dominated;

WHEREAS, AFP affirms diversity as a foundational principle across its programs, activities, committees, and governance;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the AFP Inland Empire Chapter commits to diversity as an ongoing and proactive process within its leadership, membership, programs, and operations.


Our Guiding Definitions

Diversity
Ensuring all voices are represented and valued, recognizing the richness of perspectives across identities, experiences, and communities.

Inclusion
Creating a space where everyone belongs, participates meaningfully, and has a purpose at the table.

Equity
Ensuring individuals have the resources and support they need to fully participate—centering those historically underrepresented and empowering them to lead.

Justice
Addressing historical barriers and systemic inequities by removing obstacles and creating access so that all individuals can thrive.


What We Do

The IDEA Committee works collaboratively with chapter leadership to:

  • Develop and implement IDEA-focused strategies and policies

  • Support AFP IDEA Champion participation and recognition

  • Host strategic planning discussions centered on inclusion and equity

  • Conduct assessments to understand member needs and experiences

  • Review accessibility of programs, events, and meeting formats

  • Recommend improvements to enhance engagement and belonging

  • Monitor progress and provide regular updates to the Board


Looking Ahead

Each year, the IDEA Committee:

  • Reviews progress toward IDEA goals

  • Evaluates chapter practices through an equity lens

  • Identifies opportunities for growth and learning

  • Helps guide a long-term IDEA roadmap aligned with AFP standards

Through intentional action, accountability, and collaboration, the AFP Inland Empire Chapter is committed to building a chapter culture where everyone is seen, heard, and empowered to lead.
