Marylou Turner has helped bring musical artistry to Kansas City for nearly 50 years. As a member of the Women's Committee for the UMKC Conservatory since 1993, Marylou served as President from 1997-2003 and ever since then as chair of their scholarship committee. Marylou has served multiple terms as president of the Women's Committee for the UMKC Conservatory, the Symphony League, and of the Youth Symphony of Kansas City. She founded and for 20-plus years has chaired the Women's Committee's Scholarship Committee, serving as their lead fundraiser and motivating others to follow her lead by establishing 23 named and fully-endowed scholarships for Conservatory students. As chair of Crescendo and the Symphony Ball, she successfully recruited major event sponsorships valued collectively at more than $1.5 million. As a member of the Friends of the Conservatory Board of Directors, Marylou helps lead the efforts of the Nomination Committee, responsible for identifying and recruiting new members to the Board. The most special part of Marylou's service, however, is the friendship and mentorship she offers to countless students and scholarship recipients. She attends their recitals, hosts students and their parents for lunch, and regularly checks in with phone calls, emails, and hand-written cards and letters.
