Mentorship Program

Ever wished you had someone to share your fundraising ideas, challenges, and/or successes with? Would you like to receive or provide guidance, wisdom and support alongside a fellow professional? If so, then the mentorship program is for you. By committing to one hour per month, you can be part of this invaluable program to accelerate learning processes and enhance abilities of both the mentor and mentee through shared experiences.

The mentorship program is part of an ongoing effort of the Association of Fundraising Professionals Capital Area Chapter’s (AFP-CAC) commitment to advancing philanthropy through education, training, and advocacy. The annual program is open to AFP-CAC members. The program is designed for a minimum of six (6) months and a maximum of nine (9) months.


Program Goals:
  • To promote collegial relationships between mentors/mentees in the profession
  • To assist fundraising professionals in developing a network for guidance and creative fundraising 
  • To strengthen the skills of mentees through identification and focus on specific areas of practice 
  • To enhance the professional abilities of both the mentor and mentee through shared effort
  • To promote enthusiasm for fundraising through shared experience and practice
  • To provide guidance and perspective in a mutually respectful and confidential relationship
Mentor Role:
  • Commit to a minimum of six (6) months and a maximum of nine (9) months
  • Meet with mentee for one hour per month
  • Provide guidance, wisdom, and support that accelerate the learning process
  • Assist mentee in setting targets and achieving those targets
  • Support mentee in meeting their specific needs in the fundraising profession
  • Complete an evaluation form at the end of the program
Mentee Role:
  • Commit to a minimum of six (6) months and a maximum of nine (9) months
  • Meet with mentor for one hour per month (requests for and the actual scheduling of meetings is the responsibility of the mentee)
  • Identify areas of focus to work on with mentor to achieve personal growth in the profession
  • Prepare questions in advance to make the most of the time together
  • Be respectful of meeting dates and times scheduled
  • Complete an evaluation form at the end of the program
