On Oct. 6, 2021, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) announced a change to PSLF program rules for a limited time as a result of the COVID-19 national emergency. Throughout the pandemic, ED has provided a variety of benefits to borrowers.
Now, for a limited period of time, borrowers may receive credit for past payments made on loans that would otherwise not qualify for PSLF.
Have you already submitted a PSLF form for all your periods of working at a qualifying employer? If so, you do not need to take any action. But what if there's a gap in the qualifying employment that you have certified so far? In that case, you should update your employment certification. Make sure to include periods from before you consolidated your loans. You can submit an updated PSLF form by using the PSLF Help Tool.
