Our next instalment of AFP Nova Scotia’s Virtual Brown Bag Lunch Series is part of an online series hosted by our friends at iWave. In partnership with AFP Nova Scotia, iWave would like to extend an invitation to AFP members and friends to participate in their next two webinars for free.

Can we see the future from reading the past?

Giving USA has tracked charitable giving in the United States since 1956. From this record, we can learn a great deal about giving during and after recessions. Insights from the past, including tough times in the mid-1970s and from 2008 to 2009, will shape decisions you make now and into the future.

We’ve asked Melissa Brown, chair of the Association of Philanthropic Counsel and an internationally recognized speaker about the data of charitable giving, to share what research shows about:

  • Disaster giving after 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Sandy and now
  • Recession giving in long and in deep recessions

 And perhaps most importantly,

  • What charities are doing right now to raise funds, not only for emergency relief in human services and health, but also for on-going operations in the arts, environment, and other types of missions.

Registration is now open through iWave's website portal:
